I remember Candan writing me to tell me about that last swim. She explained that she couldn't swim anymore because of the chance of infection. It was hard for her to give swimming up that summer, and even harder, I think, to give up eating the fresh fruits and vegetables she loved.
She also told me about how she had begun wearing a wig, which I think she has on in this picture.
I am wondering, Kilcaslan, whether your parents had other grandchildren besides Candan. I think she had a cousin that she was very close to, but I'm not sure whether that was a cousin on your side or her mother's.
